MARIE, Mich. - Grandmaster Suh's yearly
visit during his Summer
Seminar Tour saw a gaggle of promotions in the Sault, Michigan
and Sault, Ontario schools.
Keith Kelly (top right, pictured with Kuk Sa Nim and Master
Simonds), head instructor of Kuk Sool in Traverse City, MI and
former student of KJN Simonds received a promotion to third degree
black belt, or Pu Sa Bum Nim. Pu Sa Bum Nim Keith has trained under Master
Simonds for many years, and was even one of KJN's
original students at his LSSU club.
Ben Forejt II (bottom right,
receiving his certificate from Kuk Sa Nim), age 13, received his
second degree black belt, or Kyo Sa Nim. Kyo Sa Nim Ben has been training in Sault, Michigan since
the age of 4 and was one of the youngest people in Kuk Sool to
receive a black belt, becoming a Jo Kyo Nim
at the age of 10. Ben trains with his father, Kyo
Sa Nim Ben Forejt I, at Washington School.
Family Martial Arts in Sault, Ontario
saw a multitude of their youths promoted to black belt. After many
years of training and a mind-numbing amount of practice tests, former
Dahn Boh Nims (pictured
below, from left to right) Jason Iaconis,
Louis Iaconis, Daniel Knatchuck,
Joseph Pinder, Erin Dottor, Michael Dottor, Derek MacDonald, Jim
Richer, Nathaniel Clement and Joey Pacicco
all received promotion to first degree black belt, or Jo Kyo Nim.
Everyone promoted at this event endured a two 1/2
hour test before Grandmaster Suh on
Saturday, June 30 and then participated in a three-hour seminar
afterward. Many of those then took part in the seminars the following
day, rounding out two days of intense training.
